LA CANADA, CA - April 15, 2018: (R) Matt Baffert, 37, carpenter and the trail boss for the Mt. Wilson Bicycling Association, works along other volunteers who had joined him to work on armoring a drainage to parts of the Gabrielino Trail, on Sunday, Apr. 15, 2018, to manage water flow and minimize erosion on the final stretches of the wilderness trail, between Bear Canyon and Oakwilde camp ground in the Western San Gabriel Mountains. A 10-mile stretch of the historic Gabrielino Trail cutting across the rugged heart of the San Gabriel Mountains has been closed for nearly a decade due to damage caused by the Station Fire in 2009. It is now set to open this summer, after undergoing laborious restoration at the hands of the volunteers who met monthly for the past 9 years to repair the wilderness trail and to restore it back to the forest service standards.
